The Course Reader has been designed by practitioners - people who have been teaching or organizing seminars via computer communications for almost 20 years. Those years of experience have been used to produce a program which is easy to use yet has all the essential features needed to conduct courses or seminars via the Internet. Those features include:

  • Messages can be filtered into multiple seminars (sub-conferences) as specified by the teacher or seminar organizer.

  • Messages organized by date of reception or author.
  • Facility for creating multiple messages simultaneously.
  • Reports on last time users downloaded messages.
  • Compatible with Windows, Linux or Macintosh operating systems.
  • With an optional connectivity program (see below) the Course Reader can send and receive messages from the Web so that users in cybercafés can participate in the courses or seminars.
  • Being translated into Spanish, French, Serbo-Croat and Chinese.
  • Designed for easy translation into other languages.
  • Backed by a community of educators determined to help bring educational computer communications to every region of the world.

The program has been designed so that anybody who uses an email program will quickly learn how to use the Course Reader.

The Course Reader can be connected to an educational computer communications system called Virtual U. Developed by a large network of educators and computer scientists Virtual U has an extensive set of capabilities such as course calendars, testing tools and data mining instruments (for message analysis). It is available as a separate product for $1,000 (which provides for a lifetime, unlimited users license).
